In the early years of World War II, the band was chosen to play at many military ceremonies, including when many West Chester State students left for military service. Over the next few years, the "Girls Trumpet Corps" was added to the marching band which was said to "add considerably to the effectiveness of the group".

Powell Middleton, the band was comprised of 50 male students. In the mid-1930s, the marching band was simply an addition to the college's football games. Throughout its history the Golden Rams Marching Band has been one of the most influential ensembles on other marching related groups throughout the northeastern United States. The West Chester Marching Band was founded in 1936 at then West Chester State Teachers College. Birney Crum Stadium in Allentown, Pennsylvania. The band has also performed at Cavalcade of Bands championships in Hersheypark Stadium, and has the honor of being the host band of the annual Collegiate Marching Band Festival, held in late-September or early-October at J. The Golden Rams Marching Band plays half-time and pre-game shows at all home football games and frequently travels to away games and high school marching band competitions. The band currently has about 265 members and is directed by Andrew Yozviak and John Villella. In 2019, the band became the first from a Division II school to win the coveted Sudler Trophy, known as the “Heisman Trophy” of the collegiate band world.The West Chester University 'Incomparable' Golden Rams Marching Band is the marching band for West Chester University. The Golden Rams have performed in exhibition at the 2013 Atlanta Regional, the 2012 Pittsburgh Regional, and at the Bands of America Grand National Championships in both 20.

The group has been featured during Philadelphia Phillies World Series appearances, marched in New York’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade. The band has performed at Pittsburgh Steelers, Philadelphia Eagles, New York Jets, New York Giants and Washington Redskins football games. The “INCOMPARABLE” Golden Rams Marching Band performs regularly at WCU football games, numerous exhibition events throughout the region and at special events for the university and community. This year promises to be just as special.” At the playoff game in 2020, we loved taking the field with over 100 of our INCOMPARABLE Alumni in modified black and green uniforms provided by the Eagles. “Playing for 60,000 fans in an NFL stadium is amazing for all involved,” says Gumble, “And it’s also a fantastic experience for our students. It includes West Chester University’s alma mater fanfare – altered to include an Eagles chant – Bon Jovi’s “Living on a Prayer,” and will conclude with the Eagles fight song in a new arrangement by Andy Yozviak, a WCU Wells School of Music professor and director of bands.
